about

Remastered from the original reel-to-reel tapes comes the fourth Generator release from 1993, X-313 "World Sonik Domination" EP, for the first time in digital format!

Generator the label was originally formed in Detroit by Alan Oldham and studio partner Ethan Nep Sevy (ex-Code Industry) and was one of the first labels to be pressed and distributed by Submerge.

The young duo was later joined by Detroit's Sean Deason (as Freq), Minneapolis' DJ ESP Woody McBride, Tokyo's Mind Design, and most famously Rome's Marco Passarani, who released his first international projects on the label.

X-313 (still Ethan Nep Sevy and Alan Oldham) was Generator's foray into Rave Techno.

The name "X-313" was cribbed from a record distribution house in London run by a guy named Ranx, who himself cribbed *his* name from the Italian comic character Ran Xerox or Ranx for short. X-313, the distributor, handled many of the early Submerge releases for the UK.

"Cybernator" was inspired by the big room Belgian and German buzzsaw rave tracks of the day, in much the same way that UR's "The Punisher" was.

Sevy and Oldham were joined by Sean Deason on the live studio jam "Sentinels." Deason would go on to release his first solo production on Generator as Freq (GEN008.5), and then establish his own label, Matrix.

The controversially-named "Zyklon-B" is a dark, funky bass workout of the time, inspired those old school Derrick May DX-100 basslines.

Hardsignal "Aeolus 14 Umbra" b/w "Crushed" (GEN007, 1993) would be the final studio collab between Oldham and Sevy.

Look for more of the original Generator material to be released exclusively on our Bandcamp site in the coming months.
