It's been a long four years since a proper release on Pure Sonik
Records.
After a move to Berlin, a switch to all digital production,
stellar EPs on BPitch Control, Third Ear, Finale Sessions, and
Elypsia, and high-profile remixes for Ellen Allien and Loco Dice,
Alan Oldham is back at his homebase, new and improved!
We kick off with the title track, "Message Discipline," a hard, banging
opening statement sure to get your crowd's attention. The T-1000 is
back!
Next, the retro "Techno Boulevard" refers to Gratiot Street in
Oldham's hometown of Detroit. Once ground zero for the labels
and studios of the Belleville Three, and the center of local Detroit
Techno action in the late '80s through the '90s. The DX-100
bassline-driven track is Oldham's nod to such classics as "The Art of
Stalking," and "Emanon."
We continue with "Pump It!" a no-holds-barred acid jam propelled by that insistent sample, pushing you and your crowd further and further!
"Minimized" is AO's attempt at a more minimal approach at 125 bpm, and tailored to more Dubfire-inspired sets, although that Detroit funk shines through. Listen for that long breakdown and comeback! That liquid metal ain't no joke!
We close out with the long, dreamy "Dronestate," fusing AO's love of shoegaze and ambient into one classic-sounding Detroit Techno track.
