After stellar EPs for BPitch Control, Sound of Berlin and a star appearance on the “Arkham Friends”compilation on Arkham Audio last year, native Detroiter and Berlin expat Alan Oldham a.k.a. DJ T-1000 kicks off 2022 on his homebase label Pure Sonik Records with the pure techno of the all-new “Don’t Complain, Don’t Explain” EP.
We kick off with the dark, Detroit/Berlin techno of “Untergang” as Oldham confidently gets back into gear, inspired by the tracks he played during his recent US tour.
We follow on with the rave stabs, percussion and deep bass of the mysterious “Codeswitch.”
On “Indonesian Girl,” T-1000 brings down the BPMs and moves into the melodic Detroit tech-house territory of his 90s youth. Funky swing, sequenced 909 hi-hats and melancholy strings feature on this confident track.
“Resonance” brings the T-1000 back to “A Pure Sonik Evening” form, a minimal, jackin’, straight to the point workout for DJs with a beepin’ acid line, thumpin’ kick and a bit of distortion. Inspired by Oldham’s two favorite producers of the moment, we’ll let you guess who.
And finally, nobody’s had a bigger 2021 than the young god Gene Richards Jr, coming out of nowhere with remixes for S-File, Marco Faraone, and Confidential Recipe, collabs with Hertz Collision and Michael Klein, and multiple plays by T-1000 himself on HOR Berlin. We at Pure Sonik Records are proud to have landed a Jackin’ remix of “Resonance” from this exciting new talent!
